Moving along with our week of July 4th events, Raleigh has started a great tradition on Fayetteville Street. This Saturday from Noon to 11:00 pm come out for a huge free event called The ‘Works! There are beer/wine tents, rides for the kids, live music and so much more. The fireworks start around 9:30 pm over The Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts.
No matter where you are, you can try different food trucks in preparation for the fireworks that evening. Make a whole day out of it! Maybe I’ll see you on Fayetteville Street. 🙂

On December 10th, it was announced that the North Carolina Museum of Art would be undergoing a new 164-acre project thanks to an anonymous donation! The project is a park campus that will include greenways, bike trails, and new art of course. The vision for this project started long ago in the late ’80s and is finally able to come to life now! You can catch the NC State Men’s Basketball team or the Carolina Hurricanes playing a game at the PNC Arena located in Raleigh, NC. If you ever go to a Hurricanes game on the same evening that there was a Basketball game, I highly recommend you show up to the arena early! The staff works really fast in transforming the court back into the icy atmosphere needed for the later game. I have seen it happen a couple times and I cannot get over how cool it is to watch!
The PNC Arena came to Raleigh in October 1999 along with the move of the Hartford Whalers Hockey Team to NC. It can hold over 19,000 fans for a basketball game or a little over 18,000 during ice hockey games. In addition to housing these teams, you can catch a number of LIVE shows in the arena from musical performances (such as Brantley Gilbert coming in October) to ice performances like the anticipated Frozen on Ice. Check out the link below for a schedule of events coming to the PNC Arena in Fall 2014 through 2015!

We are well into school starting up, which can only mean one thing…College Sports have started as well! Which Teams do you follow? In Raleigh, the huge triple tie is between Wolfpack, Tar Heel and Duke Fans. You can catch a number of games, whether you are into Basketball, Soccer, Baseball, or Football depending on the season. Cary also has a Baseball complex that houses Olympic Youth and the US Tournament of Stars! You don’t have to travel very far to get your fill of sports in the Triangle Area.
Keep an eye on posts through out this week as I highlight some of the main facilities where you can attend games during the Fall season. I will not show bias, though I will admit that one of my children went to NC State!
The Raleigh Convention Center was built back in 2008 and has already housed hundreds of high school graduates, as well as been the location for several major conventions in the area. It can hold an event for anywhere from 50 to 5,000 people! It is about 500,000 sq ft including Ballrooms, Exhibition Hall, a Lobby at Street Level, and in close proximity to hotels, Red Hat Amphitheater and Duke Energy Center.
One of the major Conventions that they host is Animazement! Last year there were over ten thousand people who attended! You may have noticed a ton of people in costume walking around Raleigh during Memorial Weekend. They were cosplay attendees going to the convention.

Typically we have a different theme that runs through out the week, previously with ideas such as Local Breweries, Bed and Breakfast, etc. Last week we went over places in the Cary area for you to check out. This week we are going to be posting about places in Raleigh! Now, there are a lot and we cannot hit all of them, but we will do our best to hit on the major locations. We have posted about the first Bed and Breakfast in Wake County being in Raleigh, as well as some breweries. Look through the right hand menu for more categories! There is a lot to Raleigh, from the day time events to the night life.
